Bhavnagar: A woman was allegedly set on fire by one of her neighbours, who was furious over the similarity between the name of her puppy and the surname of the wife of one of the attackers. Gujarat, police said on Tuesday.

The victim Nitaben Sarvaiya (35) suffered severe burns. An official of Palitana city police station said that he is undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Bhavnagar.
Sarvaiya was at home with her youngest son at the time of the incident. Her husband and two children had gone out.

Police said Bharwad accused Sarvaiya of deliberately naming the puppy after his wife.
In his statement to the police, Sarvaiya said that Bharwad misbehaved with her but he tried to avoid her and others. As she entered the kitchen, three men followed her. Police said one of them poured kerosene from a container on Sarvaiya and set it on fire by lighting a match.
Sarvaiya raised a noise, hearing which some neighbors reached his house. At the same time her husband also came. They put out the fire from her husband’s coat.
The officer said that the woman suffered severe burns.
According to the police, the families of Sarvaiya and his attackers had a fight in the past over water supply. However, the matter was resolved amicably.
The police registered an FIR against six people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for attempt to murder, home intrusion, insult etc.
Police said that no one has been arrested so far.
