NEET result: 3 candidates share top rank, more girl students qualify than men

According to the National Testing Agency, three candidates have shared the top rank in the medical entrance exam NEET-UG, the results of which were declared on Monday.

Telangana’s Mrinal Kuteri, Delhi’s Tanmay Gupta and Maharashtra’s Karthika G Nair topped with 720 marks out of 720. Eight transgender candidates have also cleared the exam.

An NTA official said that a tie-breaking formula will be used at the counseling stage for the combined rank holders.

The fifth rank is also shared by 12 candidates while 21 candidates have shared the 19th rank.

The testing agency of the Ministry of Education has not used the tie-breaking formula to announce the ranks this year. More than 15.44 lakh candidates had appeared for the exam conducted at 3,858 centers in 13 languages. More than 8.70 lakh candidates have qualified the exam.

The NEET-UG exam was conducted on September 12, in which more than 95 percent of the registered candidates appeared for the medical entrance exam.

More female students passed

According to NTA officials, more female students have cleared the exam than male students, continuing the trend of previous years. Of the 14 transgender candidates who appeared in the exam, eight have also qualified.

“A total of 4,94,806 female students have qualified for the exam, while the number of successful male candidates is 3,75,260,” an official said.

Fifteen candidates were identified using unfair means during the examination and their results have been cancelled, the official said.

A record 16.14 lakh candidates had registered for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) this year.

Similarly, the qualifying marks for General/EWS PWD candidates is 137-122 as against 146-129 in 2020. This year the qualifying marks for OBC PWD SC PWD and ST PWD candidates is 121-108.

“The Directorate of Health Services (DGHS), Government of India will conduct the counseling for 15 PC All India Quota seats, Deemed Universities, Central Universities, ESIC and AFMC, BHU and AMU seats. Candidates may visit the website www.mcc.nic.in for more details. Candidates will apply for 15 PC All India Quota seats as per the instructions of DGHS and the counseling will be stopped after the seats are exhausted.

The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the National Testing Agency to declare the results of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to undergraduate medical courses across the country, saying it cannot hold the results of more than 16 lakh students.
