Court dismisses petition for postponement of NEET, Delhi High Court said, ‘There is no merit in the petition’

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2022 is not postponed. The Delhi High Court, after hearing a petition seeking deferment of the medical entrance examination by 3-4 weeks, said that the petition had no merit and dismissed it. “There is absolutely no merit in the petition…. If such petitions are filed, the court will not shy away from levying the cost.”

The petition was filed by 15 candidates from across the country. Justice Sanjeev Narula heard the petition. More than 18.72 lakh students have registered to appear for the examination to be held on July 17.

Arguing the matter, the lawyer told the court that “the timetable has been disturbed due to Covid. We want to reduce it this year, so that it is back on track by 2023.

The students had demanded an adjournment claiming that there are natural calamities including flood situation in many parts of the country. The petitioners also submitted that there was not enough time to prepare for NEET as there is very little difference between CUET, NEET, JEE and board exams.

The candidates claimed that this has led to “mental trauma and harassment resulting in reports of suicides of 16 young students”.

The petition also states that this year, the notification for NEET (UG) was issued almost 100 days before the examination and the examination schedule is unfair and arbitrary.
