“Today, January 7, 2022, is a historic day for the medical fraternity of the nation. The movement called by FORDA to expedite the NEET-PG counseling 2021 began on November 27, 2021 after several delays and postponement of counseling ,” FORDA said in a statement issued hours after the apex court’s decision.

A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna said the detailed reasons for the interim order will be followed, and the counseling for NEET-PG for the academic year 2021-22 will proceed as per the norms already notified.
The bench passed the interim order on a batch of petitions filed by NEET-PG candidates, who had challenged the July 29, 2021 notification for implementation of OBC and EWS quota from 2021-22 academic year on the ground that Rs. 8 lakh income criteria were without any scientific study to determine EWS.
FORDA had earlier moved the Supreme Court stating that there is an urgent need to start NEET-PG counseling and amendment in the reservation criteria for Other Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections at the end of the process would further delay the final. selection.
In an application seeking a party to the pending petition, FORDA had said that every year around 45,000 candidates are selected as postgraduate doctors through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Post Graduate).
But the process was put on hold in 2021 as NEET-PG was delayed till September due to the coronavirus pandemic, FORDA said.
After calling off the strike on 31 December, Forda President Dr Manish said that the agitation was carried out by “overworked and exhausted” doctors.
In its statement on Friday, the federation thanked all the resident doctor associations and resident doctors, Indian Medical Association, Delhi Medical Association, and media, and citizens who came forward and supported when the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic was looming large. .
“We are also grateful to the Hon’ble Supreme Court and MoHFW (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) for taking note of the complaint of the resident doctors,” it said.
