As the first final of the 20th Kumar Surendra Singh Memorial Shooting Competition concluded at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range on Sunday, Neeraj of the Indian Navy claimed the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Position (3P) gold ahead of Sartaj Singh Tiwana of Punjab , won the final match. With a margin of 17-9 between the two.
The youngster from Punjab, however, won the junior event to end the successful day.
Shooting on the second day of competition at DKSSR, Neeraj dominated the men’s 3P match the entire time. He first topped the qualification round with a score of 585/600 and then scored the gold medal match with an effort of 403.8 in the eight-man ranking round. Tiwana, who came second to make the final, was far behind in the ranking round with a score of 400.4. The Navy won the second medal in the event with Kiran Ankush Jadhav winning the bronze medal in the ranking round with 399.8.
In Junior Men’s 3P, Delhi’s Shivam Dabas topped the first qualification round with a score of 581. Surya Pratap Singh of Himachal finished second with 580 and Sartaj stood third with a score of 578.
However, in the ranking round, Surya Pratap topped the eight-man field with 402.0 as Sartaj set up his second gold medal match of the day, finishing second with 400.7. Dabas won the bronze medal with 398.1.
The Junior Men’s 3P final was a very tough affair, though Sartaj eventually won 17-15, which eventually turned out to be a thriller.
Team medals were also won for men’s 3Ps, with Indian Navy, Madhya Pradesh and Indian Air Force finishing first, second and third respectively.
