Neeraj Chopra Qualifies for Javelin Throw Final; Qualifies automatically on first attempt

Neeraj Chopra secured an automatic qualification with his first attempt in the qualification event of the javelin throw. Chopra had thrown 86.65m in her first attempt, not only topping the qualification standings after the first attempt, but also surpassing the automatic qualifying mark (83.50).

Participating in her first Olympics, Chopra took only seconds to make it to Saturday’s final round as she passed the qualifying mark in Group A of the qualification event.

Along with Chopra, Finland’s Lassi Atteltalo and Germany’s Johannes Vetter also earned direct qualifications.

Vetter, who is one of the top contenders for the gold medal in the event, threw 85.64m in his last attempt to qualify for the medal event.

The 23-year-old Chopra left the javelin field after his first throw, which easily earned him a place in the final. He topped Qualification Group A with his first throw.

Shivpal Singh, the other Indian in the fray, will present his challenge in Group B later in the day.
