National Commission for Women on Monday asked Uttar Pradesh Police to take action against Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav Suspended BJP member Nupur Sharma for allegedly inciting hatred and malice.

Yadav said on Twitter, “Not only the face, the body should also apologize and should also be punished for disturbing the harmony of the country.”

In a letter to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police DS Chauhan, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said the tweet is “sheer provoking”.

Sharma said, “National Commission for Women has also said on a Twitter post of Akhilesh Yadav against Nupur Sharma for inciting hatred and hatred, inciting communal disharmony between two religious groups, which is highly condemnable.”

Considering the gravity of the matter, you need to take immediate action against Akhilesh Yadav…,” wrote Sharma. He also termed the SP chief’s statement as “unwelcome” as the matter is already being looked into by the judiciary.

“Nupur Sharma is already facing threat to her life and Akhilesh’s tweet to attack Sharma is a sheer provocation for the general public. A fair investigation should be completed in a time bound manner,” Sharma said.

He said that the action taken should be conveyed within three days.
