It has been decided to remove the mention of Khalistan from NCERT’s 12th book. This information has been given by School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar.

Last month, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) demanded removal of the controversial content from the book. For this he wrote a letter to NCERT.

SGPC had said that the mention of Khalistan should be removed from the 12th class book. Also, that thing should also be removed from NCERT books, in which Sikhs have been described as separatists. SGPC Principal Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami had submitted that wrong information has been recorded regarding the Sri Anandpur Sahib resolution.

SGPC wrote in a letter to NCERT that wrong information is being spread against Sikhs in the books. Historical facts are being distorted. The information given about Anandpur Sahib and Khalistan in the 7th chapter of class 12th book.

It states that in 1973 the Anandpur Sahib resolution was adopted by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The proposal is shown in the book as a ‘separatist proposal’. It has been said that the demand for regional autonomy has been raised through the resolution. While reading this chapter, it seems that a separate nation is being demanded from the Sikh side. However, it is not like that. Therefore it should be removed.

NCERT removed the chapter on Mughals from the 12th syllabus

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has made some changes in the syllabus of History, Civics and Hindi for class 12th.
