Alia Siddiqui has thanked estranged husband Nawazuddin Siddiqui for choosing her for a small part in his film ‘Holy Cow’ despite their separation and ongoing legal battle.

Sanjay Mishra starrer satirical comedy Holi Cow, directed by Sai Kabir and produced by Aaliya Siddiqui, hit the screens in August last year. Based on the story of a Muslim man’s missing cow, it had a digital release Amazon Prime Wednesday (April 19) video. The film also has a cameo by Alia’s husband, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. In an exclusive chat with News18, she thanked him for taking out time for her film and choosing her for a small part in it. “To play a cop, we needed Nawaz and he knew it. He gave us his time and that’s how we got him in the film.”

She tells that the decision about casting actors was jointly taken by her and Sai. “Every decision related to the film was taken by the director and me. I liked the idea of ​​the film. Sai Kabir has worked in many films. He did Revolver Rani (2014) with Kangana (Ranaut) and is doing a film with Nawaz now called Tiku Weds Sheru. Sacred Cow opened to mostly positive responses from critics. Ask her about the reactions to the digital release of the film and she says, “I don’t know the reaction to the film yet as I am in Dubai. Having said that, when the film released in the theatres, we got some great response. The reviews were great and the audience loved it. It has got a good platform with Amazon Prime Video. I am waiting for more people to see it and give their feedback.

After venturing into film production, Alia tells us that she is now venturing into direction and has completed shooting for her directorial debut. Without divulging much, she says, “I have shot for a film, which I will send to Cannes (film festival) next year.” She is also producing a film based on a popular folk singer. Sharing an update on the same, she reveals, “I am making a film on Teejan Bai. She is a Pandavani folk singer, who has been awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. I have bought the rights to make the film. There is still some time before the shooting starts. The script is ready and we have narrated it to the actors and the director. We will announce it once the final paperwork is done.

Some time ago news started coming that Nawazuddin will also be a part of this film. Clearing the air, Alia says, “Nawaz was never doing a film. But he talked about it in an interview as he is a big fan of Teejan ji. Would she like to work with him in future? “I would like to. But let’s see,” she says.
