Navi Mumbai: Fire breaks out at ONGC plant, two workers scorched

Mumbai: A fire broke out at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s (ONGC) plant near Navi Mumbai on Thursday evening.

Two workers were injured in the accident and the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The injured employees have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

Soon after the incident, the company took to Twitter to inform that a fire was reported near the effluent treatment plant of ONGC Urban which was doused with prompt action by ONGC and CISF.

According to officials, the fire, which started around 6:15 pm today, was brought under control within half an hour.

Police also said that as soon as the incident was reported, at least seven fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire.

In a similar incident, in 2019, a massive fire broke out at an ONGC gas processing unit in the urban area of ​​Navi Mumbai, killing four people. ONGC had witnessed incidents of fire in 2019 and 2020 as well.

In September 2020, a massive fire broke out at the gas processing unit of the energy major in Hazira, Gujarat, which was doused after a few hours without any casualties.
