India A pacer Navdeep Saini took three wickets but South Africa A managed to post 249 for seven on the first day of the third unofficial Test on Monday. South Africa A scored half-centuries from openers Sarel Irvi (75) and the middle-order pair of Tony de Jorki (58) and Khaya Zondo (56).

Saini took three for 42, while fellow pacer Deepak Chahar took one for 35 and left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar took two wickets. Saini, who has performed impressively in the series with seven wickets so far, has given India An early breakthrough, dismissing rival skipper Malan (0) in the sixth over, while Saurabh sent back Zubair Hamza (16) cheaply, reducing the home team to 44 for 2.

However, Irvi and Tony took South Africa A past 150 points before being run out by Upendra Yadav. Saini then took two wickets, dismissing Irvi and Senuram Muthusamy (0), to leave the hosts for 187 for 5 in 65.2 overs.

Khaya Zondo then took the responsibility and shared a fruitful partnership with Cinethamba Keshile (22).
