New Delhi: Navy heads of 12 countries Indian Ocean Region Will participate in a three-day maritime conference of the Indian Navy starting Sunday in Goa, according to an official statement.
This will be the third edition of the Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC-21). The Indian Navy statement mentioned that this would be based on the working level deliberations of the Goa Maritime Symposium-21 held in May this year.
The theme of GMC-21 is ‘Maritime Security and Emerging Non-Traditional Threats: A Case for an Active Role for IOR Navies’, designed keeping in mind the need to ‘win everyday peace’ in the maritime domain .
The Goa Maritime Symposium-21 was the Sherpa event for GMC-21, the statement said.
“In GMC-21, Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh | 12. host the Chiefs of Naval Staff or Chiefs of Marine Forces from Indian Ocean Beaches including Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand,” it noted.
It noted that the participating Chiefs of Navy and Chiefs of Maritime Forces would also note the importance of interactivity to effectively deal with emerging and future maritime security challenges in the Indian Ocean region.

The Indian Ocean region has become the focal point of the 21st century strategic landscape and the GMC aims to bring regional stakeholders together and deliberate on collaborative implementation strategies, the statement said.
“As part of the conclave, visitors will also be given an opportunity to witness India’s indigenous shipbuilding industry at the ‘Make in India Exhibition’ and the capabilities of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel for submarines at Marmugao Port Trust, Goa.”
