National Mountain Climbing Day 2021: The day was established to honor Bobby Matthews and his friend Josh Madigan for successfully climbing the 46th peak of the Adirondack Mountains in New York State.

Mountains have major geographical importance in our daily life. They are responsible for defining the natural boundaries of nations and landscapes. Those who admire these advanced features often go hiking or climbing, sometimes risking their own lives. National Mountaineering Day is celebrated every year on 1 August.

The day was established to honor Bobby Matthews and his friend Josh Madigan for successfully climbing the 46th peak of the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. The two youths climbed the final peak of Whiteface Mountain on August 1, 2015. Bobby and Josh were formally inducted into the Adirondack 46er club in May 2016.

According to geologists, a mountain is a landform that rises about 1,000 feet or more above its surrounding area. A range or chain of mountains which are close together is known as a mountain range. They are also important in influencing weather patterns.

Mountain climbing is an adventurous hobby for many people and has its own challenges. In 1965, Avtar Singh Cheema became the first Indian to climb Mount Everest. Before Avtar Singh, fifteen foreigners had already climbed the highest peak of Mount Everest. The first Indian woman to climb Everest was Bachendri Pal who did so in 1984 at the age of 30.

Climbing the mountain is a pleasurable experience and everyone should try it at least once in their life. There are many great heroes whose ascent has an inspiring story attached to it. Touching the pinnacle can be beneficial and also creates a sense of accomplishment. a

The views to die for and the freshest air only add to the excitement of climbing the summit. Some people who try it once, often find a hobby in it because reaching new heights and conquering one peak after another is a pleasurable experience.
