Nashik: One tourist dead, 22 rescued at Dugarwadi water fall | Nashik News – Times of India

NASHIK: One person drowned at Dugarwadi waterfall, one of the most captivating waterfalls in the Maharashtra located at Trimbakeshwar taluka, about 50kms from Nashik city.
The Trimbakeshwar police inspector Sandip Randive said that the body was recovered Monday morning, 3km down the spot of waterfall in the rivulet.
The deceased has been identified as Avinash Garud, resident of Ambejogai, and currently residing in Nashik city.
He was among the 22 other tourists who had stuck at the waterfall since Sunday evening.
Tourists from Nashik, Thane, Beed and Jaipur (Rajasthan) had been to the waterfall and had descended the hills to reach the basement of the waterfall.
It was after 3.30pm that water levels in the rivulet suddenly rose to alarming levels due to very heavy rains in the catchment areas of the waterfall and these people got stuck up.
While five persons managed to get on the safe side with the help of locals, a set of 12 people were stuck in the middle of the rivulet since 7.30pm with water levels rising to waste high. The set of five persons were also stuck up on the other side of the rivulet.
Since the mobiles were not functioning and it was also secluded area where there is no range of the telecommunication devices, the locals climbed up the hill and reached nearest settlement after which they could seek help.
It was around 9.00pm forest department, the tahsil office received the call for rescue after which the district disaster management team of volunteers went for the rescue operation.
According to resident deputy collect Bhagwat Doifode, the locals were of great help in ensuring the people kept their nerves even in the middle of the heavy showers and then rescuing them along with the team of rescuers who had gone to the spot.
It was by 2.00am on Monday that all of them were rescued, the police said.
