Nagpur Blast: Director, Manager Arrested After Fatal Blast

An official stated that police arrested the director and manager of an explosives factory on Friday (June 14), a day after an explosion at the unit near Nagpur city claimed the lives of six workers.

He stated the arrest of Jay Khemka (49), director of Chamundi Explosives Pvt Ltd, and factory manager Sagar Deshmukh, subsequently presenting them in a local court.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with officials, visited the blast-affected factory.

He stated, “The factory management has assured to provide ₹25 lakh to the families of each deceased, while the state government will give ₹10 lakh to the kin of each victim.”

The factory, situated in Dhamna village under Hingna police station limits, is approximately 25 km from Nagpur city.

According to the police, the blast occurred around 1 pm on June 13. They added that nine injured persons were admitted to two private hospitals in the city, of whom five women and a man died during treatment.

They stated that most of the victims were working in the factory’s packaging unit when the explosion occurred.

Case Registered Under Section

Hingna police station officials stated that they registered a case against the director and the manager of the factory on Thursday night under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 286 (negligent conduct concerning explosive substance), 304 (a) (causing the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act), and 338 (causing grievous hurt by doing any rash or negligent act).

They subsequently arrested director Khemka, a resident of Ram Nagar in Nagpur, and manager Deshmukh.

Vijay Wadettiwar, the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, also visited the site. He emphasized the strict implementation of guidelines prescribed for such factories and demanded ₹35 lakh compensation and ₹20,000 monthly pension for the families of the deceased.
