Nadda targets ‘family’ parties, like Lalu’s ‘aunt and nephew will end there’

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda on Wednesday hit out at regional parties including the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for being “family organisations”. Nadda, who is on one three day tour of west bengalSaid this in the state meeting of BJP. From Mamata Banerjee Till Lalu Prasad Yadav, everyone was on his radar.

“All regional parties are family parties. They have no focus. Remember Kashmir PDP? Daughter’s party. Look Shiromani Akali Dal, it is a family party. There are also family parties in UP. And look what has happened to the Congress, it is now a brother-sister party. Look at Bihar, Lalu and Tejashwi, father-son party. Now look at Bengal, a pishi-bhaipo (aunt-nephew) party,” he said. We will form government in Telangana and Bengal also.

Experts say regional parties are trying to form a block to fight the BJP again in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, and hence Nadda attacked them from a “family angle” to damage their credibility.

Party insiders said the BJP chief’s word inspired a cadre in the state unit which is hurt by incessant infighting.

Observers say that by attacking regional parties for being “family-run”, Nadda tried to show that the BJP is much bigger than the TMC.

He also said that “Bengal has not given the account (report) of 100 days of work. How will they get the money?” He instructed the party workers to go and tell this to the common people.

The Trinamool Congress recently held rallies across the state to protest against the alleged delay by the Center in payment of dues to West Bengal under the 100-day action plan.

Saying that nothing is impossible, Nadda tried to enthuse BJP workers and said that they would change the government, and also compared Bengal to the then Lalu Prasad Yadav-ruled Bihar. “25 years ago, no one could have imagined” Lalu Yadav will be in jail. But this is the reality of today. It has happened naturally, the law has taken its course.” “Similarly, the day is not far when the Pishi-Bhaipo will also be where they are.”

He also directed the party workers to tell the people of the state how the names of central projects are changed by the TMC government. He urged them to look at things from a long term perspective and not go for short term gains.

Responding to this, TMC general secretary Kunal Ghosh said, “The people with whom Nadda ji is photographing may not be in the party after a few months.
