Mysore to implement Cycle4Change project Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysuru: Four years after India’s first public bicycle sharing system tritrin Launched in the city of Mysore, the city is piloting yet another project “Cycle4Change” to encourage cycle users by providing dedicated cycle lanes/cycle tracks on the main roads of the city.
It is planned to leave at least 1.5 meters of space on the road adjacent to the curb for bicycles. The track will be marked, reserved for cycle users only, with blinkers and signal poles. This is expected to boost the morale of the cyclists.
This project is an initiative of Directorate of Urban Land Transport under the scheme of Central Government. Mysuru Municipal Corporation, the implementing agency has taken the initiative and floated tenders inviting contractors for the project so that they can prepare the track New Kantharaja Urs Road, JLB Road, Krishnaraja Boulevard, Chamaraja Double Road and Radhakrishna Avenue.
Trintrin user Kiran claimed, “When Mysore initially launched Trintrin, we thought cycle tracks would be made available for safety, but nothing happened.”
Mysore got its first cycle lane a decade and a half ago on Narasimharaja Boulevard near Karanji Lake. This was the first and only dedicated lane and today, the lane is being used by vehicle users. Prior to the launch of the Trintrin project, a cycle lane was marked in front of a section of JLB Road. Mysore Urban Development Authorityoffice and soon it got washed away with no maintenance. After the Trintrin docking station was established, there was a proposal to build a track on Mirza Road, but this did not materialise. Now that the civic agency is keen on the Cycle4Change project, the process is speeding up and within a month tracks will be set up to give cyclists their place on the busy stretches.
Mahesh, DC (Development), MCC inspected the spot at the junction of Krishnaraja Boulevard and New Kantharaja Urs Road before implementation of the project. The project has been taken up under the central government scheme and Mysore has taken the lead in implementing the project considering its wide roads. There will be tracks soon in the nearby parts of Law Court, University of Mysore, Maharaja’s College, Muda Office and Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya. Detailed Project Report is ready and tenders have been floated. Work is expected to start soon.
