India’s star batsman KL Rahul has had a successful surgery for a sports hernia in Germany and it will take at least a few months for him to fully recover before he starts playing again. Rahul was ruled out of the recently concluded home T20I series against South Africa due to fitness issues and was set to captain India.
The 30-year-old has been troubled by lower abdominal concerns, including groin strains and hamstring injuries. The India top-order batsman on Wednesday shared a post on Twitter confirming his successful surgery and said he is doing well.
“Hello everyone. It’s been a tough few weeks but the surgery was successful. I’m recovering and recovering. My recovery has begun. Thank you for your messages and prayers. See you soon,” Rahul wrote with his picture.
While there is no confirmation that Rahul is expected to make a full recovery, he is expected to be out for at least two months.
“He will take rest for a few days and then his physical rehabilitation will begin at the NCA. It will take a few weeks to start with his regular nets season and see if he can make a comeback in the Asia Cup. In Rahul’s absence, Rishabh Pant led India to a 2-2 draw in the five-match series against South Africa, with the fifth contest washed out due to rain.
