Party President Mallikarjun Kharge also addressed the meeting on the second day of the three-day convention.

Addressing the 85th Plenary Session of the Congress in Raipur on Saturday, former President Sonia Gandhi said that she was happy that her ‘innings’ ended with the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

He said, “Our victories in 2004 and 2009 as well as the able leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh gave me personal satisfaction, but what makes me most happy is that my innings ended with the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which was a great success for the Congress. It was a turning point.”

“This is a challenging time for the Congress and the entire country. BJP-RSS has captured and ruined every single institution of the country. It has created economic havoc by benefiting some businessmen.”

Party president Mallikarjun Kharge also addressed the meeting on the second day of the three-day conference. A carpet of rose petals was laid for Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders on Saturday as well.

Kharge released a book and party general secretaries submitted their reports, after which the Congress president addressed the gathering.

Kharge said, ‘BJP is breaking every democratic institution for its political gains. Inflation is at its peak… Our Prime Minister is selling everything of this country to his friend.”

“The BJP did everything possible to stall this plenary session,” he added. “Raids were conducted, our leaders were arrested, but against all odds this session is happening.”

Three proposals – political, economic and international affairs – will be discussed in Raipur on Saturday.

On the first day of the three-day convention, the Congress Steering Committee unanimously decided not to hold elections to the CWC and authorized the party chief to nominate its members.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the steering committee headed by Kharge, which was not attended by members of the Gandhi family.

Later in the day, the subject committee of the party held its first meeting in which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi He was also present soon after reaching here on Friday late evening. The meeting discussed six resolutions to be adopted in the session.

The session, which comes in the backdrop of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which has been described by the party as a success, has been attended by around 15,000 delegates.
