MWC 2022: Oppo announces 150W, 240W fast charging for Oppo and OnePlus smartphones

At MWC 2022, Oppo showcased its new fast charging technologies. While brands like Xiaomi Having already talked about 120W fast charging that can charge a phone with a battery capacity of 4,500 in around 15 minutes, it seems Oppo is setting the bar a bit high. The company has introduced 150W SUPERVOOC with Battery Health Engine (BHE) and 240W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge technology.

So, how fast can 240W charging be? Opposition Claims that this technology can charge 4,500mAh smart Fone Battery from 1% to 100% safely in about 9 minutes.

How Oppo’s new 150W SUPERVOOC charging works

150W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge with BHE uses direct charging technology with two charge pumps that can support 20V/7.5A charging. The adapter for the 150W SUPERVOOC with BHE uses gallium nitride (GaN), making the adapter nearly identical in size to the previous generation 65W SUPERVOOC adapter, which measures 58 x 57 x 30 mm and weighs approximately 172 grams it happens.

OPPO’s new ‘Battery Health Engine’ is powered by its battery management chip and incorporates two key technologies: Smart Battery Health Algorithm and Battery Healing Technology. “Together, they improve battery health, safety and performance by optimizing hardware and software,” Oppo said.

The Smart Battery Health algorithm can track the real-time electrical potential across the negative electrode inside the battery. It dynamically adjusts the charging posture within a reasonable range, effectively reducing the occurrence of dead lithium while maintaining the maximum charging current. This is said to ensure longer battery life and faster charging speeds.

Battery healing technology, on the other hand, optimizes battery life from the battery’s internal systems. “By improving the electrolyte formula, the electrodes are continuously repaired during the charge and discharge cycle of the battery, creating a more stable and durable solid electrolyte interface (SEI) that always remains in an ideal state in real time. Helps reduce wear and tear of the positive and negative electrodes of the battery, hence, enhances battery performance and prolongs battery life,” explained Oppo.

OnePlus and Oppo phones will get this new 150W charging technology

According to Oppo, BHE will be integrated into most mid-to-high-end Oppo oneplus Phones in the future are bringing security, efficiency and durability to more users. The 150W SuperWook Flash Charge with BHE will debut on OnePlus smartphones in the second quarter of this year.

Oppo 240W SUPERVOOC Charging Tech: How It Works

Along with 150W charging technology, Oppo has also launched 240W SuperVOOC. This new technology can charge a 4500mAh battery to 100% in about 9 minutes.

The 240W SuperWook is designed with 24V/10A technology over Type-C interface. It has three charge pumps and the power supplied to the handset can be converted to 10V/24A. In addition, the battery’s leading discharge rating allows the hardware to support a maximum of 240W.

The 240W SUPERVOOC is said to come with five safety safeguards as well as a specially optimized intelligent control chip that regulates voltage, current and temperature to deliver a safe charging solution. An optimized battery protection monitoring chip monitors whether the mobile phone battery is damaged by external forces when in use.

“Temperature protection has been enhanced through 13 temperature sensors installed in the phone, thereby reducing the chances of overheating and avoiding abnormalities,” said Oppo.
