‘MVA responsible if…’: Eknath Shinde claims security of rebel MLAs removed; Maha government rejected the claim

Disgruntled Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde on Saturday alleged that the Maharashtra government has withdrawn security at the residences of 16 rebel MLAs, including himself, and termed the action as “political vendetta”.

Shinde, who is currently camping in Guwahati with the rebel MLAs, tweeted a letter signed by 16 MLAs, addressed to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil.

In the letter, the MLAs said that CM Thackeray and the leaders of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance will be responsible if their family members suffer any loss. In his tweet, Shinde alleged that on the orders of Thackeray and Walse Patil, the security of 16 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs was withdrawn due to “political vendetta”.

He said, ‘It is the responsibility of the government to protect these MLAs. In the letter, the MLAs have demanded that their security be restored.

“If our family members suffer, the chief minister, leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government like Sharad Pawar, Sanjay Raut and Aaditya Thackeray will be held responsible,” the letter said.

It said that the security cover provided to his residence and his family members as per protocol has been illegally and unlawfully withdrawn as revenge.

But Home Minister Dilip Walse has denied these claims. “Neither the Chief Minister nor the Home Department has ordered withdrawal of security of any MLA in the state. The allegations made in this regard are completely false and misleading,” he wrote on Twitter.

The MVA government is facing an existential crisis as most of the Shiv Sena MLAs have shifted their loyalty to Shinde and are camping in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Independent MP Navneet Rana has now demanded a security cover, alleging possible danger to the families of the disgruntled MLAs. He has also demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state.
