Music maestro Ilaiyaraaja faced off for comparing PM Modi with Dr BR Ambedkar

Now the iconic musician is under criticism.

Ilaiyaraaja has written about the similarities between the two leaders in the foreword to a book.

Legendary musician Ilaiyaraaja is known for his humble origins. Though he comes from a backward Dalit community, his unparalleled talent and strong will power have led him to achieve immense success not only in the Tamil film industry but also in Bollywood. Though he has a huge fan following across the country and is loved by all for his contribution to Indian cinema, the music maestro is facing criticism for writing the foreword to a book.

Ilaiyaraaja has indicated the striking similarity between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dr BR Ambedkar in the preface to the book Ambedkar and Modi: Reformer’s Ideas, Performer’s Implementation, published by Bluecraft Digital Foundation.

“The book brings out some striking similarities between the personalities of Dr BR Ambedkar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Both these striking personalities succeeded against the odds faced by the people from the socially challenged sections of the society. Both looked closely at poverty and social structures and worked to eliminate them. Both had big dreams for India, but both are also practical individuals who believe in action rather than mere thought practice,” Ilaiyaraaja wrote in the preface.

In his preface, Ilaiyaraaja also said that Dr. Ambedkar would be proud of Prime Minister Modi for implementing pro-women laws like triple talaq law and social reform programs like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.

Now the iconic musician is being criticized for distancing himself from the struggles of the Dalit community and the ideologies of Dr BR Ambedkar as well as the great Tamil social reformer Thanthai Periyar. A few years back, he declared himself a non-Dalit, defying his caste origin. And now, the musician has found himself embroiled in yet another controversy after comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dr Ambedkar.

Meanwhile, leaders of several political parties reacted strongly to Ilayaraja’s preface in the book. DMK MP TKS Elangovan criticized the preamble saying that while Ambedkar worked for the betterment of Dalits, Modi did nothing of the sort. Many netizens did not take it kindly and criticized the musician for the same.
