Guwahati: To provide maximum employment and entrepreneurship opportunities to the tribals in the state, 400 Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK), five food parks and seven Eklavya Model Residential School will be installed in Assam.
This was finalized by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs in a review of the Tribal Livelihood Development Program. Arjun Munda Here on Sunday. Sarma also reviewed other projects to be taken up for the welfare and development of tribals during their meeting with Munda at the state guest house, Koinadhora.
Managing Director, Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED), Pravir Krishna Gave a detailed presentation on the ongoing programs and projects proposed to be implemented in the state. The Chief Minister urged that necessary steps should be taken to set up 400 such centers by March next year. Sarma said he would regularly review the progress.
Sarma said, “The state government will procure the products of VDVK at minimum support price to expand the reach of local resources, expertise of tribal people and tribal products.”
The Chief Minister also directed the concerned department to provide necessary land for setting up seven more Eklavya Model Residential Schools in Assam. Presently the construction work of five such schools is going on in the state.
Munda said that the Center is providing necessary support for the successful implementation of the schemes being run for the economic development of the tribals. He said that the Prime Minister has accorded top priority to the development of the North Eastern Region and accordingly the Ministry has adopted several initiatives to generate employment and entrepreneurship among the tribal youth. “The central government will set up several model villages in Assam in the next five years,” he said.
The Union Minister also handed over the Van Dhan National Award for TRISSAM to Sarma.
Assam Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjit Kumar Das, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Handlooms and Textiles Minister UG Brahma, Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya, State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Samir Kumar Sinha and other senior Govt. Officials were present in the meeting.
