Mumbai’s CNG stations to start door-to-door fuel delivery for customers

Mumbaikars will soon have CNG delivered at their doorstep as The Fuel Delivery (an energy distribution startup) has signed a ‘letter of intent’ with Mahanagar Gas Limited to set up mobile CNG stations in the city. The 24×7 service will cater to all CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, cabs, private and commercial vehicles, school buses and other vehicles using CNG, The Fuel Delivery said in a statement.

With the launch of doorstep service, CNG customers will be able to refuel their vehicles at CNG stations without having to queue for hours. The startup said that it has received approval from MGL (Mahanagar Gas Limited) to operate two Composite CNG Distribution Units (CDUs) or mobile CNG stations in Mumbai.

The service will start from Sion and Mahape in Mumbai over the next three months and will gradually be extended to other parts of the city.

It also said that MGL’s CDU has followed due procedures and completed trial runs after obtaining preliminary approval from Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO). According to the statement, this is the first time in the country that a startup is going to launch a mobile CNG station.

Rakshit Mathur, Founder-CEO, The Fuel Delivery said, “After successfully doing doorstep delivery of diesel across the country, we are taking a step forward by announcing doorstep delivery of CNG.”

He added that doorstep delivery of CNG will give a significant push to vehicle owners to shift to CNG, and refuel their vehicles with ease and comfort at their place closer to their homes or office.

The company said Mumbai consumes around 43 lakh kg of CNG per year through over five lakh CNG-powered vehicles, while the city has only 223 stations. The IoT-based startup distributes diesel to industries such as real estate, hospitality, retail, logistics and warehousing, and agriculture.

It currently caters to over 500 B2B (Business-to-Business) customers across all sectors. With the addition of mobile CNG stations, The Fuel Delivery will expand its services in the B2C (business-to-customer) segment, the company said in a statement.
