Mumbai Saw 70 Pc Rise in Cyber Crime Cases in 2022 Says Fadnavis

“By November 2022, the Mumbai Police Commissionerate has recorded a 70 per cent increase in cyber frauds as compared to the cases registered till November 2021,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said that there is a 70 per cent increase in cyber crime cases in Mumbai in 2022 as compared to the previous year.

At least 4,286 cases of cyber fraud were reported in Mumbai in the one-year period till November 2022, Fadnavis said in response to a question by MLC Bhai Girkar in the state Legislative Council.

“By November 2022, the Mumbai Police Commissionerate has recorded a 70 per cent increase in cyber frauds as compared to the cases registered till November 2021,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

He said that till November 2022, 1,294 cases of credit card and online frauds were registered in the city and of these, 37 have been resolved.

He said 2,216 cases related to frauds in online shopping, cryptocurrency investment, admission to educational institutions, insurance, investment and jobs were registered and 132 detected during this period.

Fadnavis said that out of 4,268 cyber fraud cases registered in a year till November 2022, only 279 have been solved.

He said that five police stations in Mumbai are dedicated to detecting cyber crimes.
