MUMBAI: The city police on Thursday said it has decided to act on inter-district transfer of police constables who applied to move to other districts after six months. Staff shortage for upcoming festivals like covid settlement, eid, Ganapati, Navratri and for settlement Municipal Elections are the reason for the decision. The police department has received transfer applications of 2200 constables in the last eight months.
Talking about the shortage of manpower, a senior official said that 6,500 constable posts are already lying vacant in the city as of today. “Transferring around 2,200 constables to other districts and getting their replacements is a big deal. Therefore, in the Establishment Board meeting held on June 30, it was decided that inter-district transfer requests would be processed after six months,” the official said. He said that maximum manpower would be required for settlement in the city during the next few months.
