Mumbai Police rescues 17 women hidden in secret room of dance bar during raid

New Delhi: At least 17 women were rescued and 11 people arrested after a dance bar was raided in Andheri, Mumbai. The women were found inside a secret basement which was attached to a makeup room at Deepa Dance Bar.

The secret room had all the facilities like AC, beds, food and water. The raid was done on Sunday night. The wall of the establishment had to be broken down to find the cavities in which the women were hidden.

“There was an information that women were made to dance in the bar. An advanced electronic system was installed near the bar to alert those inside any raids. We found one with beds and air-conditioning. Found the basement. A case has been registered at Andheri police station,” he was quoted by PTI in his report.

Initially, investigators found that the toilet, storage room and kitchen were all empty. He questioned the manager and employees, who repeatedly denied the allegations. The police kept on questioning the employees as well, but they also said that there was no bar girl in the premises.

During the raid, a large mirror installed in the make-up room caught the attention of the officers. Despite repeated attempts, he could not remove the mirror from the wall. Reports state that the mirror was eventually shattered with a hammer, opening a small entrance leading to the secret cellar.

An FIR has been registered against the manager and the cashier at Andheri police station.
