Mumbai Police On High Alert, Launches Search To Nab ‘Pak-Trained Dangerous’ Man On NIA Info

Mumbai: Mumbai Police is on high alert mode and has launched a manhunt to trace the ‘Pakistan-trained dangerous’ person after receiving vital inputs from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) about his suspicious activities in the city. According to Mumbai Police officials, “a search has been launched for the ‘dangerous’ person after an e-mail was received from NIA’s city unit about his suspicious activities.

“The email from the NIA was received on Sunday afternoon, following which all agencies were put on alert. The NIA communication identified the suspect as Sarfaraz Memon, who had entered Mumbai,” the official said. State, the police of that state have also been alerted.

Giving details about the suspect, the NIA officials also shared details like Aadhaar card, driving license and passport. As per the information received, the suspect has received training in China, Hong Kong and Pakistan, the police officer said.

In its communication, the NIA had reportedly warned that its man could pose a serious threat to Mumbai’s law and order situation. The Central Anti-Terrorism Agency tracking him said Memon had reached Mumbai and had advised the city police to be more vigilant as he was an “enemy of the state”.

According to news agency PTI, a senior Mumbai Police official later confirmed that an e-mail had been received from the NIA and the man was being traced. Based on the communication received from the NIA, the Mumbai Police has now sought further information about the “dangerous” person from the Indore Police.

Significantly, in the last few months, Mumbai Police has received several threats of possible terror attacks, but all proved to be rumours.
