Mumbai Metro Commuters To Get India’s First Free Accident, Disability, Death Insurance Cover

The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has announced free insurance cover for accidents, disability or death of any passenger traveling on the Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7, in what could be a first of its kind initiative. Insurance without any charge to passengers, the cover will be applicable on two lines – Dahisar East to Gundavali in Andheri East and Dahisar East to DN Nagar in Andheri West. As per the plans, the MMMOCL policy has a maximum cover of Rs 100,000 for hospitalization and Rs 10,000 for OPD treatment, for accidents or injuries incurred during the journey.

SVR Srinivas, CMD, MMMOCL, informed that the policy provides compensation of up to Rs 500,000 for death and up to Rs 400,000 for permanent or partial disability. Srinivas said, “We have provided comprehensive insurance coverage to our valued customers. With this policy, travelers can now travel with peace of mind, knowing that they have adequate insurance coverage in case of any unfortunate eventuality Is.”

All passengers having valid ticket, pass, smart card, QR code or valid permission are present either in Mumbai Metro building, station, train or in station premises except outside areas like parking lots, cab-stands. , foot overbridge, cycle stand etc.

Srinivas said that apart from all measures for safety and security, this insurance policy will safeguard the movement of passengers from unforeseen circumstances and enable them to travel with peace of mind.

Passengers in the Lucknow Metro and outstation trains of the Indian Railways are offered the same insurance coverage, but for the latter, passengers have to pay a nominal amount as premium.
