He appeared before the 25th Court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Sewri pursuant to the summons and the court released him on a personal bond of Rs 15,000 with conditions including non-contact with the complainant and repeat of the offence.
Somaiya appeared along with his lawyer Dinanath Tiwari, while the complainant NGO was represented by his lawyer Adnan Shaikh. The magistrate has now fixed November 25 for recording the evidence.
Kalme’s complaint said Somaiya allegedly published posts and articles about a case that was “never proven in court” and that “damaged” her and the NGO’s reputation.
