Mumbai Police’s crime branch on Thursday arrested four people from West Bengal for duping a youth of Rs 1.17 crore on the pretext of giving him admission in a medical college, an official said.

The arrests were made by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Crime Branch, taking the number of persons involved in the case to seven, he said.

In his complaint lodged in December last year, Arun Vishwakarma said he was in touch with one of the accused, who assured him of admission in a medical college for the MBBS course. The crime branch official said the accused failed to fulfill his promise to his accomplices and did not return his money.

The victim approached the JJ Marg police and lodged a complaint in this regard.

“After receiving similar complaints, the Mumbai Police constituted an SIT and took up the investigation. Four accused were nabbed from West Bengal on Thursday, while three others linked to the case have already been nabbed.

The four accused were booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including cheating and forgery as well as other sections of information and evasion. technology act. He was produced before a court, which remanded him in police custody till March 14, it said, adding that further investigation was on.
