Mukhtar’s Brothers-in-law Surrender In Ghazipur Court | Varanasi News – Times of India

Varanasi: Following attachments of their many movable and immovable properties under Gangster Act, the brothers-in-law of jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari — Sharjil Raja and Anwar Shehjad —surrendered before Ghazipur court on Saturday. Both were sent to jail.
Mukhtar’s wife Afsha Ansari and son Abbas Ansari, the MLA from Mau Sadar seat, are still absconding.
ADG Varanasi zone Ram Kumar on Sunday said, “Both the absconding brothers-in-law of Mukhtar, who had surrendered before Ghazipur court on Saturday, have been sent to jail. Now, search is on for the absconding wife of Mukhtar and his son Abbas Ansari.”
The volume of financial losses caused to Mukhtar, his family and gang members by attaching their movable and immovable properties, putting check on extortion trade, removal of possession from government and other lands and demolition of buildings constructed with illegal earnings has gone above Rs 600 crore under the on-going drive against gangsters, added the ADG.
Sharjil and Anwar reached the court of chief judicial magistrate in Ghazipur by dodging the policemen and surrendered in an old case lodged under section of prevention of damages to public property act with Nandganj police. The Ghazipur cops, who were searching for the duo in many cases, failed to get a clue about their move. The court ordered to send them to jail in judicial custody. As per the police records, the criminal history sheet of both was opened in 2019 and it mentioned six cases, including those under Gangster Act. In most of the cases they are co-accused with Afsha Ansari.
Apart from the attachment of their movable and immovable properties, the Audi car of the duo had also been seized by police.
