Billionaire Gautam Adani has said he considers Reliance Industries founder Dhirubhai Ambani a role model and his son Mukesh Ambani a friend, providing a rare insight into the relationship between India’s two richest families.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, he said, “Dhirubhai is an idol, an inspiration for us.” India TV Channel.
“Mukesh bhai is a very good friend of mine. I respect him a lot. He gave a new direction to Reliance with Jio, technology and retail apart from his traditional business of petrochemicals. He has contributed a lot to the progress of the country. Mr. Adani said.
While Mr. Adani and Mr. Ambani both come from Gujarat and control vast trading empires which started even before India opened its economy in 1991 and are Now all sectors are worth hundreds of billions of dollarsThere are few areas of one-on-one competition between the two.
However, after two decades of aggressive expansion Escaping each other’s authority, the two men are increasingly treading the same ground, with Mr Adani seeking to separate his interests from his coal and ports businesses and the Reliance boss expanding into green energy.
Asked whether he celebrated becoming India’s richest man last year by toppling Mukesh Ambani, he said, “I never got trapped by these numbers.” The industrialist, who is worth $117 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, is now the richest in Asia and third in the world behind Louis Vuitton’s Bernard Arnault and Tesla boss Elon Musk.
