Mucormycosis back in Haryana, 18 undergoing treatment in Rohtak. Chandigarh News – Times of India

CHANDIGARH: Even as the risk of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 rises, mucormycosis is back Haryana, According to state health officials, 18 patients of mucormycosis are undergoing treatment at Pt Bhagwat Dayal PGIMS Rohtak.
Of these, 16 are from Rohtak and adjoining areas, while two are from NCR. No death has been reported from the deadly disease in recent weeks.
“Most of these patients have comorbidities. There are cases in which patients either concealed or were unaware of having diabetes during treatment for the delta variant of COVID. A senior official of the Haryana Medical Education and Research (MER) department said, patients are responding to treatment and PGIMS has adequate arrangements.
Till December 8, Rohtak had registered 500 cases. Overall, Haryana has so far reported around 1,793 mucormycosis cases and 274 deaths.
The state was facing the threat of vector borne disease (VBD) along with Covid since September. With crossing 11,831, Haryana has surpassed its six-year-old record of dengue. In 2015, Haryana had 9,921 cases and 13 deaths.
“Our main emphasis is on testing. We have ordered RTPCR for Dengue and COVID for the purpose of complete diagnosis. Also the Covid patients who are being given injections are also made aware of Mucor symptoms,” said a health department official.
