Located in Daladili Vegetable Market on Ring Road in Ranchi, Sarna Hotel is known for its delicious mutton dish and this foot joint attracts a huge crowd everyday. In contrast to the orderly atmosphere of a sophisticated restaurant, Sarna Hotel witnesses a bustling crowd slurping only on mutton curry and rice.

Peter, the owner of Sarna Hotel, says that the hotel has been open for about one and a half years. In the initial days, the mutton dish could not find many customers and the hotel used to prepare only one kilo of mutton daily.
However, the hotel now serves 70 to 80 kg of mutton daily, which sometimes falls short due to high demand. Perhaps the price of Mutton Curry is a major attraction among the customers. A plate of mutton curry and rice comes for Rs 130 only and customers can order unlimited rice and gravy as per their choice.
The hotel has become a favorite among the locals from every corner of Ranchi owing to its delicious mutton dishes, including Bariatu, Dhurva and Singh Mor Chuki. Not only this, but people from neighboring cities like Kolkata and Tata also come here to taste the mutton at Sarna Hotel. This significant change in the hotel’s fortunes is a testament to the exceptional quality of its food and its loyal following over time.
What’s so special about mutton?
Peter says that the hallmark of the mutton dish at Sarna Hotel is its simplicity and cleanliness. “Unlike other restaurants that overload their dishes with extra spices, we stick to a simple recipe that has been passed down from our grandmothers. We use only domestic spices to make mutton, just like it is made at home. Our approach is to use a well-coordinated blend of spices that complement each other perfectly,” explained Peter.
According to Peter, at Sarna Hotel he believes that the best food is made using simple yet carefully selected ingredients and this is reflected in the taste of the mutton dish.
Many ministers and politicians are also crazy about this place. Former Mandar MLA Bandhu Tirkey and AJSU leader Sudesh Mahto are among the many prominent personalities who are regular visitors to the hotel.
