Mrunal Thakur opens up on celebrating Gudi Padwa with her family. She will next be seen in Gumrah opposite Aditya Roy Kapur.

On the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa, Mrunal Thakur took a trip down memory lane to reminisce about the festivities in her hometown. Calling the day a ‘double celebration’, Mrunal shared that on the ‘auspicious day’, they also celebrate her father’s birthday.

In an interview with Bombay Times, the Jersey actress shared, “Gudi Padwa or the Marathi New Year is auspicious for Maharashtrians as it marks new beginnings and marks the arrival of spring. It brings a lot of happiness and positivity. We also celebrate my dad’s birthday on Gudi Padwa as per Tithi (Hindu calendar), so it is a double celebration every year at my house.

He further added, “Gudi ubdhanyat khop anand hoto (I take great pleasure in hoisting Gudi outside the balcony or window). A brand new saree is draped over a long bamboo. On top of this neem leaves and sugar garlands are attached with flowers. The arrangement is covered with a pot (handi or kalash) and hoisted outside in the morning. We worship and offer Naivedya (food offered to God). Lunch is served on a banana leaf. The Gudi is lowered before sunset. Like every year, this time also I am celebrating the festival with my family at my parents’ house.

The actress also said that the festival also allows her to take a break from her busy life. “We make some noise and eat delicious puran polis, which are mandatory in any Maharashtrian household on this occasion. It is good to spend Gudi Padwa morning with family and take a break from your busy life.

When asked about her favorite part of the festival, Mrunal confessed that she loves dressing up and wearing saris. “I love sarees, and recently saw some of my mother’s lovely sarees, so I wore her saree this year. And I will wear it with Nath. Getting ready is another favorite part of the festival. You can give time to yourself and your family and time to decorate.”

On the closing note he shared, “I love the concept of festivals. Dressing up, eating delicious home-cooked food and socializing with our families… all these things keep us connected and rooted to our culture. I am glad that I live in a country where we celebrate so many festivals with equal enthusiasm. May Gudi Padwa bring happiness, good health and prosperity to all. Happy new year and good day, hearty good luck.

Meanwhile on the work front, Mrunal Thakur was recently seen in a cameo role Akshay Kumar In selfie. She now awaits the release of crime thriller, Gumrah opposite Aditya Roy Kapur. The film will release on 7 April.

Besides this, Mrunal also has a few other projects in the pipeline, including Umesh Shukla’s Aankh Micholi and R Balki’s anthology, Lust Stories 2.
