A tiger was found dead in the core area of ​​Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh. An official gave this information on Monday. Reserve Deputy Director Lavit Bharti said in a statement that the carcass of a cat aged about 4 to 5 years was spotted by forest personnel on Sunday evening while patrolling near Bamor village under Patour core area of ​​BTR. The official said it is suspected that the tiger died after a territorial fight with another big cat.

During the search by dog ​​squad, evidence of presence of a tiger, a tigress and two cubs was found within 500 meters of the spot and villagers were advised not to venture out into the area, the statement said. After an autopsy, the carcass was disposed of as per the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and its viscera was sent to a laboratory for examination. The All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018 had revealed that Madhya Pradesh was home to 526 tigers, the most of any state in the country. Madhya Pradesh has several tiger reserves including Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Satpura and Panna.

Last week, a senior forest official said that over 30 tigers moved out of the Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) in recent years to find a new area. He had said that tigers from PTR had gone to Chitrakoot and Bandhavgarh, while it was a regular and natural process.
