In a video that went viral, BJP MLA from Seoni Dinesh Rai Munmun was seen clapping while the boy was reciting the poem.

District Education Officer Kamal Kishore Patel told PTI on Tuesday that a show-cause notice has been issued to the teacher guiding the girl student and a report has been sought from the principal.

He said that school principals and teachers have been directed to preview the performances planned during such programs and ensure that no religion, caste or great personality is insulted.

Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to the district administration demanding suspension of the teacher. District Congress president Rajkumar Khurana said the BJP was responsible for the incident as its ideology taught the child to disrespect Mahatma Gandhi.

District Congress spokesperson Rajik Akeel said the BJP MLA was seen clapping during the recitation of a poem, in which Mahatma Gandhi has been insulted by portraying a wrong history.

MLA Munmun, on the other hand, said that the incident pertains to children and should not be taken seriously. He said that children should not be dragged into politics.
