A Right to Information (RTI) activist was shot dead allegedly by unidentified persons in front of the Public Works Department (PWD) office here on Thursday evening, police said. Additional Superintendent of Police Sameer Yadav said the victim Ranjit Soni (36) also worked as a government contractor.
He said that the attackers fled from the spot after the incident. Soni, working as a contractor in various government departments, used the RTI Act to obtain information, often for issues related to government contracts, he said.
He said that personal enmity could be behind the incident but police is probing from all angles.
