Police said the hands and legs of the woman were found in one train at Rishikesh on June 10, while the rest of her body was recovered from another train a day before on June 9

A 60-year-old man allegedly strangled a woman, cut her up and dumped the body parts in two different trains after a failed attempt to rape her at Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. He was arrested on Sunday after police found the knife used in the crime along with other evidence, police said.

According to police, the accused dumped the woman’s body parts in the Indore-Nagda and Indore-Dehradun passenger trains. The hands and legs were found in a train in Rishikesh on June 10, while the rest of the body was recovered from another train a day before on June 9, police said.

Police said the 37-year-old victim was missing from her home as she had left after a fight with her husband on June 6. The accused, identified as Kamlesh Patel, lured her to his house when she was sitting at a railway station, police added.

“The woman had left her home on June 6 after a fight with her husband. The woman was sitting at Ujjain railway station to go to Mathura when Patel lured her to his house and spiked her food with sleeping pills. He tried to rape her but she got up and raised an alarm,” railway superintendent of police Santosh Kori said.

He added: “Patel strangled her, cut her body into pieces and placed it in the Indore-Nagda and Indore-Dehradun passenger trains. The hands and legs… were found in a train in Rishikesh in Uttarakhand on June 10, while the rest of the body was recovered from a train in Indore on June 9.”

Kori said the woman’s relatives filed a missing person complaint in Bilpank police station in Ratlam district on June 12, almost six days after she left her husband.
