MP: Five killed due to lightning in Morena, Betul

Five men were killed and a woman was injured when lightning struck Madhya Pradesh’s Morena and Betul districts on Tuesday amid heavy rains. The incidents took place in Ambah town of Morena district and Bochanwadi village in Betul district, he said.

Ambah police station in-charge Ravindra Singh said three people, including a senior citizen, were killed when lightning struck Ambah’s Porsa Square due to heavy rains in the afternoon. The deceased, who were stone sellers, were sitting in a hut at the time of the incident, they said, adding that some pigeons were also electrocuted. The men were taken to the city’s civil hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead, the official said.

Similarly, two men were killed and a woman was injured due to lightning in Bochanwadi village of Amla block, about 30 km from the district headquarters.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Ashok Narware said that all three were killed due to lightning in the village amid heavy rain and thunderstorms. Two men, aged 39 and 40, were taken to a hospital, where they died during treatment, while a 20-year-old woman is undergoing treatment, he said.
