Addressing an event in Shivamogga, Thakur said Hindus have a right to reply to those who attacked him and his dignity because he spoke about the killing of Hindu activists.

Madhya Pradesh Congress has demanded that Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha member Pragya Singh Thakur be booked for sedition for her “keep weapons at home” remark, while her party defended the statement, saying it was against women. It’s for self defense.

Addressing an event in Shivamogga (Karnataka) on Sunday, Thakur said Hindus have the right to reply to those who attack them and their dignity because they spoke about the killing of Hindu activists .

The MP from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal also called upon the community to at least keep knives sharp in their homes as everyone has the right to defend themselves.

Madhya Pradesh Congress media department president KK Mishra told PTI that the Center should now act by registering a sedition case as Thakur “incited people to violence”.

“After holding a bomb in her hand, now she is talking about a knife. The actions of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Thakur are similar.”

Thakur is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

On September 29, 2008, six people were killed and over 100 were injured when an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle went off near a mosque in Malegaon, a communally sensitive town in northern Maharashtra.

When contacted about the MP’s remarks, state BJP spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi told PTI that Thakur had gone to meet the family of the girl who was brutally murdered.

“We see that our daughters and sisters are facing inhuman treatment and being cut into pieces for the sake of ‘love jihad’ at many places in the country. Thakur’s statement is not related to any religion but is related to the mental power of all sisters and daughters for self-defense.

“Love Jihad” is a term often used by right-wing activists to allege a ploy by Muslim men to entice Hindu women to convert through marriage. , they have a tradition of Jihad, if they do nothing then do love Jihad. Even if they love, they do Jihad in it. We (Hindus) also love, love God, a Sanyasi loves his God. “Sanyasis say that in this world created by God, put an end to all tyrants and sinners, if the true definition of love will not survive here. So respond in the same way to those involved in love jihad. Protect your girls, teach them the right values,” Thakur had said.

Further, pointing to the killing of Hindu activists including Harsha of Shivamogga, he asked people to keep sharp knives at home for self-defense.
