The facility, spread over an acre, will provide hot and nutritious meals to students in government-run primary and middle schools in the urban areas of Bhopal.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday inaugurated a central kitchen preparing mid-day meals for around 47,000 school children.

Chouhan said that this facility, spread over one acre, would provide hot and nutritious food to students in government primary and middle schools in urban areas of Bhopal district. Mid-day meals are provided to students in government and government-aided schools across the country under the PM Poshan programme.

CM Chouhan said that the state government has signed an agreement with Akshaya Patra Foundation, a Bengaluru-headquartered NGO, to run the kitchen. He said that more such organizations would be roped in to provide mid-day meals in government schools of the state. The kitchen has been built at a cost of Rs 12 crore spent by HEG Limited, which will give Rs 7 crore per year to provide additional dishes like cakes, “sweet porridge” and “kheer” to the students.

The NGO said that the kitchen is the biggest mid-day meal facility in Madhya Pradesh and will serve food to students in 900 schools.
