The Congress on Tuesday fielded its leader Rajnarayan Singh Purni for the October 30 bypoll to Khandwa Lok Sabha seat and announced candidates for two more bypolls in Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, the Congress has announced its candidates for all the four by-election seats in Madhya Pradesh – one Lok Sabha and three assembly seats, where voting is to be held on October 30.

The opposition party, which released the list of three candidates, has fielded Purni, a former MLA from Khandwa Lok Sabha seat, where the bypoll was held after the death of BJP MP Nandkumar Singh Chouhan. The party has given ticket to Kalpana. Verma will be the candidate for the by-election to Raigaon (SC) assembly seat in Satna district, while Mahesh Patel will be its candidate from Jobat (ST) in Alirajpur district.

Verma unsuccessfully contested the 2013 assembly elections from Raigaon. Patel is currently the president of the Alirajpur district unit of the Congress. In Raigaon, the death of BJP MLA Jugal Kishore Bagri necessitated a bypoll, while the Jobat (ST) seat fell vacant due to the death of Congress MLA Kalavati Bhuria.

The Congress had last week fielded Nitendra Singh as its candidate from Prithvipur assembly seat in Niwari district. The seat fell vacant due to the death of Congress MLA Brijendra Singh Rathore, father of Nitendra Singh. BJP has not yet announced its candidates for the by-elections in Madhya Pradesh.

The Election Commission last week announced the schedule for Lok Sabha and assembly seats in the country where by-polls are to be held. The counting of votes cast in these will be held on November 2.
