Nath, who was the chief minister of MP from December 2018 to March 2020 and currently heads the state unit of the Congress, is expected to lead his party in the assembly elections slated for year-end.

Madhya Pradesh Minister Vishwas Sarang on Sunday targeted senior Congress leader Kamal Nath over the anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984.

Nath, who was the chief minister of MP from December 2018 to March 2020 and currently heads the state unit of the Congress, is expected to lead his party in the assembly elections slated for year-end.

Sarang of the medical education department said, “There is a big stain on Kamal Nath’s dress. Will he lead the party in the (Assembly) elections with it? He should come in public and tell whether he was involved in the riots.” The minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet told reporters.

“Congress has always played divisive politics. I appeal to Congress leadership to remove those accused of involvement in anti-Sikh riots. Otherwise it will become clear that Congress wants to contest elections under the leadership of a person accused of killing Sikhs.” Sarang charged.

Sikhs across the country were targeted and their property looted after Indira Gandhi was shot dead by two of the community’s bodyguards on October 31, 1984.

Incidentally, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday filed a charge sheet in a special Delhi court against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the Pul Bangash case of killing three people and setting a gurdwara on fire during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
