While AAP’s mayoral candidate Rani Agarwal defeated BJP’s Chandrapratap Vishwakarma by a margin of 9,352 votes, the saffron party and the opposition Congress are the main groups in the local body.

The Aam Aadmi Party won the mayor’s post in the Singrauli civic polls on Sunday but could manage to bag just five seats in the 45-member body, raising question marks over how its party’s office bearer would matter in the hot seat. While AAP’s mayoral candidate Rani Agarwal defeated BJP’s Chandrapratap Vishwakarma by a margin of 9352 votes, the main parties in the local body are the saffron party and the opposition Congress.

BJP got 23 seats, Congress 12, Independents got three seats and Bahujan Samaj Party got two seats. Observers said the BJP would have a strong chance of getting its candidate elected to the post of municipal corporation president, who performs the same function as the assembly speaker in urban body meetings.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal congratulated ally Rani Agarwal on the party’s first mayoral election victory. Many congratulations to the AAP candidate Rani Agarwal ji who won the post of mayor in Singrauli Municipal Corporation of Madhya Pradesh and to all the winners and workers. Work hard for the people. Now people in every nook and corner of the country are liking the honest politics of Aam Aadmi Party, tweeted Kejriwal.
