MP: 50 nurses of government hospital accuse superintendent of sexual harassment

Bhopal: At least 50 nurses of Bhopal-based Hamidia Hospital, the largest medical facility run by the government in the capital of Madhya Pradesh, have accused their medical superintendent of sexual harassment, following which the state government has ordered an inquiry. The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has also issued a notice to the Commissioner, Health, seeking a reply within 10 days.

State Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang confirmed to PTI that a complaint has been received against Dr Deepak Maravi, the superintendent of Hamidia Hospital.

“Keeping in view the seriousness of the complaint, orders have been given to investigate the matter, which will be done by Divisional Commissioner Gulshan Bamra,” he said.

Hospital sources said that at least 50 female nurses have accused Dr Maravi of sexual harassment and obscene acts, especially while on night duty.

When contacted and asked about the complaint against him, Dr Maravi told PTI that he is busy in meeting with a senior officer.

On the other hand, MP Congress President Kamal Nath said that the state government should take strict action on the complaints of nurses.

Nath said, “Incident of indecent behavior with 50 women nurses has come to the fore in Bhopal’s prestigious Hamidia Hospital. This is a very serious matter related to the safety of women at the workplace.”

Referring to the recent incident in Bhopal in which the former chief minister cut off the face of a woman to stand up to the molesters, the former chief minister said, “Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of crimes against women and minor girls in the country. is up. Even little girls are not safe. Is this good governance? Is this good law and order?”
