Oath is being administered to 117 newly elected MLAs in Punjab today. This time the Punjab Assembly is special in many ways. After the defeat of stalwarts like Parkash Singh Badal, Captain Amarinder Singh, this time it will be a young assembly. Of which more than half are below 50 years of age. - This time the tainted MLAs have increased as compared to last time. In 2022, 58 MLAs with criminal cases have won. In 2017, there were only 16 such MLAs. Crorepati MLAs have decreased this time.
- There are 87 crorepati MLAs in 2022 while in 2017 their number was 95.
- This time the average assets of MLAs have also come down. The average assets of all 117 MLAs in 2022 is 10.45 crores. The average assets in 2017 were 11.78 crores.
- This time 13 women MLAs have been elected. In 2017, there were only 5 women MLAs.
Most tainted in AAP
Cases are registered against 58 newly elected MLAs of Punjab. Of these, there are 27 MLAs who have serious criminal cases. Of these, one MLA has been booked for murder, 2 for attempt to murder, 3 for crimes against women. The most tainted are in AAP winning 92 seats. Cases are registered against 52 of his MLAs. Cases are registered against 3 out of 18 Congress MLAs, 2 out of 3 Akali Dal and 1 out of 2 BJP MLAs.
17 out of 18 MLA crorepatis of Congress
Of the newly elected MLAs of Punjab, 87 are crorepatis. AAP has maximum 63 MLAs, Congress 17, Akali Dal 2, BJP and BSP 1 each.
- Of the 117 MLAs, 39 are with assets more than 5 crore, 27 with 2 to 5 crore, 32 with 50 lakh to 2 crore, 14 with 10 lakh to 50 lakh and 5 with less than 10 lakh assets.
- Party wise, the average assets of 92 AAP MLAs is 7.52 crores, 18 Congress MLAs have 22.73 crores, 3 SAD MLAs have 15.03 crores and 2 BJP MLAs have 2.49 crores.
