Mopa Link Road work is facing strong opposition from the local people. Goa News – Times of India

Panaji: Hard work Street For mopa The international airport is in full swing, but villagers of Tulsiwadi, apart from a few people from Dhargal, Nagjar and Warkhand, have resolved not to give up their protest against the road being built at the cost of their livelihood.
The road connecting to Mopa airport passes through four villages, and many people have lost land, mostly cashew orchards.
The government interacted with the villagers several times in the last two years and on one occasion Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also discussed with the agitators. However, the impasse is not over.
The main argument of the protesters is that the road is being constructed without obtaining necessary permissions and the process of land acquisition for the road has been expedited. Also the objections raised by them were thrown in the dustbin.
Warkhand-Nagajhar panchayat sarpanch Sanjay Tulaskar told TOI that the situation has become volatile and a huge police force has been deployed at the work site. of local people No passes are allowed anywhere.
“Around 70 families have been affected in Tulswadi itself. Some people from other villages have accepted the compensation but none from Tulsiwadi. Even I have lost my land because of the road. After much effort, the government has assured to share the documents,” Tulaskar told TOI.
The Warkhand-Nagjar gram panchayat had written a letter to the police to stop the illegal road construction work.
A local Varak said that when the villagers intensified their protest, heavy police force was deployed to carry out the work.
“If they have all the documents of felling trees and working, they should show us. What are they afraid of, ”said Varak. He was employed as an assistant at Mopa International Airport, but said he was suspended when he began questioning the authorities.
“We need nothing but our land and trees. It is painful to see our trees being ruthlessly bulldozed. We suspect that more trees have been cut than we have been told,” said Mahesh Tulaskar, another villager.
With no solution, villagers opposing the road are considering approaching the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and have planned a consultation with green activist Abhijit Prabhudesai on Tuesday evening.
Activist Prasad Shahpurkar said at least the villagers want to know whether the conditions laid down by the Supreme Court are followed while granting permission to the project.
In January 2020, an appeal was filed by Hanuman Aroskar before the apex court. Environment clearance was granted to the airport project on several conditions on the directions of the apex court. The conditions were to be followed till the completion of the project.
“But the land acquisition officials have been claiming that the condition placed does not apply to the link road. Our point is that it is not because the conditions apply to the entire project and the link road is part of it,” Shahpurkar said.
