Moosewala murder: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi moves Punjab and Haryana HC

Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi on Wednesday moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Musewala. Bishnoi approached the High Court after the Delhi High Court withdrew his plea seeking necessary security measures as he feared a “fake encounter” by the Punjab Police.

Bishnoi was lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a case registered under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) and was remanded to three-day custody of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Tuesday after he arrested him in a case. Arrested in the Arms Act case.

In his plea, presented through advocates Sangram Saraon and Shubpreet Kaur, Bishnoi sought a direction that the judicial magistrate at Mansa in Punjab be restrained from handing over his custody to the investigating agency in Punjab.

The petitioner sought issuance of appropriate directions for interrogation of him through online/video conference facility or within the limits of Tihar Jail, New Delhi. The petitioner submitted that there is a grave danger to his life and there is a possibility that on being produced or brought from custody in connection with the FIR registered by Mansa Police, he may be harmed “by adopting extra judicial means or can be destroyed”.

Bishnoi, 35, claimed in his petition that he was being falsely implicated in the murder of singer Sidhu Musewala. The petition states, “The name of the petitioner has been named in the FIR No. 103 dated May 29, 2022 only to cover up the inadequacies in the investigation. Further, the petitioner is being made a scapegoat and has been wrongfully misrepresented.” being held responsible,” the petition said.

“In fact, even before the registration of the FIR, the top police officer of Punjab Police had held the petitioner responsible for the horrific murder, on the basis of which FIR No. 103 dated 29.05.2022 has been registered. In fact, the petitioner is from New Delhi. is lodged in Tihar Jail,” the petition said. The petitioner has been wrongly and erroneously named in the FIR without any concrete evidence based on the unreliable claims made on social media platforms.

Further, the petitioner does not have access to social media platforms or communication tools, the petition said. Musewala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, a day after the state government cut his security.

His cousin and a friend who were traveling with him in the jeep were also injured in the attack. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced the formation of a judicial commission, headed by a sitting High Court judge, to probe the murder of 28-year-old Musewala.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was among 424 people whose security was temporarily withdrawn or reduced on May 28. Punjab Police Chief VK Bhavra had claimed that prima facie, it appears to be an inter-gang rivalry between the Lawrence Bishnoi group and the Lucky Patial group. Canada-based gangster Goldie Brar, who is a member of the Bishnoi gang, had reportedly claimed responsibility for the murder.
